Chino Hills planning commissioner Stephen Romero announced Tuesday he will step down to pursue other endeavors. His last meeting will take place Feb. 19.

Mr. Romero surprised the commission because he had just been re-appointed to a four-year term by Councilman Peter Rogers.

Vice chairman Mike Stover joked, “We just took our marriage vows and now?”

Mr. Romero said he would be doing a disservice to the commission and the community if he attempted to stay on because he wouldn’t have the time to give it his all.

He said he will perform volunteer work in sports, assistant coaching and professional endeavors.

Mr. Romero has served on the commission since Feb. 24, 2015.

Once the city clerk’s office receives his resignation letter, a notice of vacancy will be posted and the process will begin to solicit applications, said city clerk Cheryl Balz.
