A program that would allow artists to paint designs on utility boxes in Chino Hills will be discussed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15 at the Chino Hills Parks and Recreation Commission meeting in council chambers.

Councilman Brian Johsz has suggested a partnership with the Community Foundation to develop a pilot program.

The foundation board gave direction to the Chino Hills Arts Committee to explore a range of public art programs before committing to a partnership.

The commission will also consider a request by the Makhijani family of Chino Hills to memorialize their father Gobind Jethmal Makhijani with a deciduous tree to be planted at Calle San Marcos Park on Norte Vista and Eagle Canyon drives.

The family would provide a $300 donation and a small plaque to be placed by the bench on which the family used to frequently sit.

City staff recommends the tree be planted where a previous tree was removed, next to the bench.
