Five teenagers are in custody after a 17-year-old boy was shot and wounded in Chino Thursday afternoon during a drug transaction in the 4300 block of Heather Circle.
Police said three suspects are 17 years old and two are 16 years old.
They were booked into San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder, robbery and conspiracy, said Chino police spokeswoman Tamrin Olden. Names of the teens were not released because of their ages.
The unidentified victim was taken to a hospital where he was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his chest, Mrs. Olden said.
Officers were called at 12:01 p.m. to Heather Circle where a community park is located on both sides of the street, finding the boy suffering from a gunshot wound. A nearby preschool was placed on lockdown for about an hour after the shooting.
Chino police made an arrest and recovered a gun believed to have been used in the shooting in the 2900 block of Whispering Lakes Road in Ontario.
Other arrests took place in the 4300 block of Heather Circle, the 13100 block of Yorba Avenue both in Chino and during a high-risk traffic stop at Ayala Park in Chino early Thursday night. Anyone with information can call Chino Police at 628-1234.
