The popular Civil War Reenactment event will return to Prado Park April 6 and 7, 2019. Anyone wanting to become a Civil War reenactor can look up the Southern California Civil War Reenactors group on Facebook.
Groundbreaking has been held for a new logistics building at the Mt. Baldy Regional Occupation Program Career Center in Ontario to be used to train students in automated supply systems starting in fall 2019. The design was created in partnership with UPS.
The Girl Scouts of America are suing Boy Scouts for changing its name to Scouts BSA after opening its ranks to girls, claiming it is damaging the GSA organization.
Ontario Christian High, a school with about 400 total students, finished the 2018 season as the 109th-ranked girls volleyball team in the nation, according to maxpreps.com. The Knights went 39-2, won the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 championship and the CIF State Division 3 title.
Members of the Chino Hills City Council said Tuesday they were sorry about the election loss suffered by fire board member Ed Gray and will miss him. Mr. Gray of Chino, who was on the board since 2004, lost in a stunning defeat to Winn Williams, a disgruntled former fire captain who had workers compensation claims against the district, served on the fire board for two years and then lost, and has tried since 2004 to regain his seat. Persistence paid off.
The Lewis Companies is attempting to woo a large brewery to Chino Hills in the retail portion of Santa Barbara Apartments at Pomona Rincon Road and Soquel Canyon Parkway. The developer is negotiating with Oggie’s Brewhouse and Septembers Taproom and Eatery for the best deal, according to the community development department.
Chino Hills councilman Ray Marquez said the lake at English Springs Park on Grand Avenue and Chino Hills Parkway looks atrocious. He said the lake contains papers and “whatever else” you want to name. The councilman asked for a cleanup, noting that he was aware of restroom construction taking place in the park.
The Chino Hills Community Foundation will suspend the Jazz and Blues Festival hosted at Big League Dreams for two years because of the amount of time and money needed to run it. The festival will be replaced with a series of concerts at the Chino Hills Community Center.
The attorney for The City of Industry sent a warning letter to the City of Commerce stating it had not communicated its intent to purchase Tres Hermanos. (See story on Page A1.) The attorney warned the Commerce city council to avoid discussing the matter in closed session or it would be a Brown Act violation. It’s good fun watching a city known for its own secrecy fighting for transparency.
A second street sign in the Ontario Ranch housing development in south Ontario has Schaefer Avenue misspelled. The current sign, visible from the northbound lanes of Archibald Avenue, says “Shaefer Avenue.” The first sign, which was placed several months ago just east of Turner Avenue, is also spelled “Shaefer.” Reminiscent of when the state spelled it two different ways on its signs in Chino.
