The Chino High Class of 1969 is celebrating its 50th anniversary with local reunion activities. Today’s (Sept. 14) agenda includes a visit to the Old Schoolhouse Museum, which is open to the public. 

Sacramento is taking away the rights of cities as it seeks to increase housing production by removing local review authority and easing restrictions, warned Chino Hills city attorney Mark Hensley during a council meeting on Tuesday. He said if cities don’t comply, the state could take away their grant funding, gas tax funding, and even impose financial penalties.

Chino Police Officer Ryan Tillman, the school resource officer at Don Lugo High, was “Hero of the Night” on NBC Channel 4 Sunday. Hosts Fred Roggin and Petros Papadakis spoke of his work, including founding Breaking Barriers United. Chino Valley firefighter Ryan Pourhassanian was Hero of the Night last year for his work with the “Heart Safe, Bleed Safe Community.”

The school district no longer includes school liaison reports on its agenda. Councilman Art Bennett, Chino Hills liaison to the board, told his council he now has to fill out a public speaker comment form to address the board.

Chino Hills council chambers has gone high-tech with a new sound system and electronic voting method that project council members’ names and how they voted on display screens. Speakers can see their time elapsing at the lectern and hear a warning tone that their three minutes is over. 

The westbound 91 Freeway connector to the northbound 71 Freeway in Corona will be closed 4 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 for attenuator repairs. Attenuators, also known as crash cushions, reduce damage to vehicles and motorists in a collision. Detour signs will be in place.
