Ayala High School senior Joe Naranjo was drafted by the Cleveland Indians Tuesday in the third round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

“A lifelong dream has become a reality today,” posted 2019 Ayala High School baseball player Joe Naranjo on his Twitter account after being drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Tuesday morning.  Naranjo was selected in third round by the Indians and was the 101st player taken overall in this year draft, which began Monday and ended Wednesday. 

The left-handed hitting first baseman hit .382 with a team-high eight home runs and 29 RBIs in 31 games during the 2019 Ayala High baseball season.  

On Wednesday, Ayala High graduate Matthew Acosta, a baseball player at the University of Southern California, was taken in the 12th round by the San Diego Padres and Don Lugo High graduate Josh Ibarra was drafted in the 31st round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
