Kendall Mangell

Chino Hills High pitcher Kendall Mangell is among nine Chino Valley softball players nominated for the Cal-Hi Sports All-State awards for 2019. 

Softball players from Ayala, Chino Hills and Ontario Christian high schools have been nominated for the Cal-Hi Sports All-State awards for the 2019 season. 

Ayala won the Palomares League, Chino Hills captured the Baseline League, Don Lugo High qualified for the postseason as the third-place team from the Mt. Baldy League and Ontario Christian earned a playoff spot as the fourth-place team in the eight-team Ambassador League this season. 

Winners of this year’s Cal-Hi Sports All-State awards could be announced later this month.


*Hannah Hughbanks, Ayala High School

Hughbanks hit .462 (48 for 104) with 27 RBIs, three home runs, two triples, nine doubles and scored a team high 37 runs.

*Kobie Hura, Ayala High School

Hura finished with a .411 average (39 for 95) and hit five home runs. She scored 27 runs, drove in 22 runs and had four doubles and two triples.

*Brooke Johnson, Chino Hills High School

Johnson, a DePaul University-signee, led the Huskies in batting average with a .544 (56 for 103), 17 home runs, 48 RBIs and 52 runs scored. The senior was named co-Most Valuable Player of the Baseline League this season with teammate Kendall Mangell.

*Kendall Mangell, Chino Hills High School

Mangell finished 24-5 on the mound and recorded 102 strikeouts in 170 innings. She gave up 40 earned runs and walked only 33 batters during the 2019 season.

*Kayla Chavez, Chino Hills High School

Chavez hit .421 (45 for 107), with 13 home runs, 42 RBIs and scored 39 runs this season. The left-handed hitting sophomore also had 10 doubles and two triples.

*Makena Brocki, Chino Hills High School

Brocki finished with a .388 average (38 for 98) with two home runs, nine doubles, two triples and 19 RBIs. The shortstop also scored 34 runs this season.

*Kiki Estrada, Chino Hills High School

Estrada hit .470 (47 for 100) with nine home runs, 47 RBIs and had 14 doubles and a triple this season. A freshman, Estrada also scored 36 runs in 2019. 

*Payton Kelly, Chino Hills High School

Kelly, a sophomore, hit .430 (40 for 93) with nine home runs, seven doubles and knocked in 32 runs. She also had seven doubles and scored 25 runs during the 2019 season.

*Kaitlyn Hawkins, Ontario Christian High School

Hawkins recorded a .434 average (35 for 80) with four home runs, six doubles and 30 RBIs. The junior led Ontario Christian with 26 runs scored this season.
