Mt. Baldy League Finals

Don Lugo’s Isaac Samano won the 122-pound league championship and Ethan Tucker placed third in the heavyweight division in the league finals Jan. 27 at Don Lugo High School in Chino. Samano was named lower-weight MVP of the league tournament.

Don Lugo 10, Ontario 7

Don Lugo finished its regular season with a 16-10 overall record, 6-4 in league with Wednesday’s win over Ontario (7-12, 1-9).

Chaffey 9, Don Lugo 4

Chaffey (7-3 in league) took sole possession of second place in the league standings Monday with a win over third-place Don Lugo (6-4). Alta Loma won the league title with a 10-0 record.

Palomares League

Ayala 10, Glendora 9

Ayala improved its league record to 2-6 with Tuesday’s win over the Tartans.

Claremont’s Reggie Retzleff scored a team-high 10 points Tuesday to lead the Wolfpack past Ayala in league play. 

Hacienda League

Charter Oak 56, Chino 53

Chino remained winless in league play Tuesday with a three-point loss to Charter Oak. The Cowboys’ record fell to 6-19 overall, 0-9 in league with the loss.

Baseline League

Chino Hills 89, Rancho Cucamonga 78 

Chino Hills finished the Baseline League season tied for second in the league standings with Damien after Thursday’s win over Rancho Cucamonga. Etiwanda won the league title at 10-0 while Chino Hills and Damien finished at 6-4.

Los Osos 66, Chino Hills 65

Los Osos High (2-7 in league) upset Chino Hills Tuesday night by a point in league play. Overall, Chino Hills fell to 15-11 overall, 5-4 in league.

Mt. Baldy League

Ontario 57, Don Lugo 41 

Don Lugo’s regular season came to an end Thursday night with a loss to Ontario. Overall, Don Lugo finished with a 4-23 record, including a 3-7 mark in the Mt. Baldy League. 

Don Lugo 63, Chaffey 53

Don Lugo improved to 4-22 overall, 3-6 in league play while Chaffey fell to 4-21 overall, 1-8 in league following Tuesday’s league game. 

Ambassador League

Ontario Christian 62, Loma Linda Academy 58 (OT)

Ontario Christian’s Julian Alvarez scored a game-high 25 points and William Mouw added 11 points as the Knights’ held on for a four-point overtime win Tuesday over Loma Linda Academy.

Palomares League

Glendora 58, Ayala 41 

Glendora completed an undefeated season with a 27-0 record, including 10-0 in league, with Thursday’s seven-point win over Ayala. 

Ayala freshman Summer McNeal led the Bulldogs with 17 points. Freshman Emma Lazaro added 10 points for Ayala, which was playing without standout senior Taylor Shelby, who was sitting out with a knee injury suffered Tuesday. 

The Bulldogs finished the Palomares League season as the second-place team, recording an 8-2 league record. Overall, Ayala is 21-6.

Ayala 46, Claremont 28

Ayala improved its league record to 8-1 with Tuesday’s win against Claremont. Overall, the Bulldogs record improved to 21-5.

Hacienda League

Chino 69, Charter Oak 27

Chino led 17-2 after one quarter and 41-7 at halftime of Tuesday’s win over Charter Oak. Valeia Payne had 14 points and nine rebounds, Samantha Custodio added 12 points and Alice Barajas chipped in with 11 points for Chino. 

Baseline League

Los Osos 56, Chino Hills 46

Chino Hills High’s Iris Cook poured in 17 points and Dorcus Wu added 13 points, but the Huskies fell to the Grizzlies Tuesday.

Mt. Baldy League

Ontario 41, Don Lugo 36 

Mt. Baldy League champion Ontario finished its league season at 10-0 with Thursday’s win over Don Lugo. Don Lugo, led by Brianna Shuttle’s 11 points, finished as the second place team in the league with an 8-2 record. 

Don Lugo 42, Chaffey 35

Don Lugo’s Jailah Lee had 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Conquistadores’ past Chaffey Tuesday. Brianna Shuttle added 11 points for Don Lugo. 

Ambassador League

Loma Linda Academy 56, Ontario Christian 50 (OT)

Ontario Christian’s Cassandra Gishwiller scored 18 points and Taryn Mouw added 13 points, but the Knights’ fell in overtime Tuesday to Loma Linda Academy.

Boys soccer

Ayala scored both of its goals in the first half during its tie with the Tartans Tuesday.

Hacienda League

Chino 2, Walnut 1

Chino won the Hacienda League title for the second straight year after beating Walnut in the final regular season game of the season. The Cowboys and Diamond Ranch tied for this year’s league title with 9-1 records.

Chino 8, Charter Oak 0

The Cowboys routed the Chargers Monday on the Chino High School field in league play Monday afternoon.

Chino Hills High’s league record improved to 4-4-1 with a tie Tuesday with Los Osos.

Mt. Baldy League

Chaffey 8, Don Lugo 0

Chaffey scored six of its eight goals in the first half during its shut out victory Monday over Don Lugo (4-13-2, 0-9). 

Ambassador League

Ontario Christian 1, Loma Linda Academy 1

The Knights fell to second place in the league standings, one-half game back of Aquinas, with a tie Tuesday with Loma Linda Academy.

Ayala finished as the fourth-place team in the league standings after Tuesday’s victory over Glendora. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with a 4-4-2 record in league.

Chino’s Melissa Aguila had two goals and Gracie Sanchez, Siera Asa and Ray Alvarado scored one goal apiece in the Cowgirls’ win Wednesday over Walnut.

Tori Galindo scored the game’s only goal Monday to lift Chino past Charter Oak.

Chino Hills High’s record improved to 3-3-2 in league with Tuesday’s shut out over the Grizzlies.

Ontario’s Sherly Godines, Alyssa Mercado and Kendra Vasquez each had a first-half goal Wednesday in the Jaguars’ shut out victory over Don Lugo.

The Conquistadores and Tigers battled to a scoreless tie Monday in league play.
