Ontario Christian High girls’ volleyball team

The Ontario Christian High girls’ volleyball team celebrates winning the Ayala High gold division tournament championship last Saturday afternoon, beating Bishop Amat, La Serna, Rosary Academy, King, and Arcadia during the two-day tournament. With the victories, Ontario Christian improved its record to 13-1 and is ranked first in Division 6 by the CIF-Southern Section. Team members are Raina Tuzzolino, Giselle Vogel, Kiley Goedhart, Riley De Groot, Mikaela Mouw, Annaka Jorgenson (Tournament’s Most Valuable Player), Micaela Mouw-Cruz, Alexis Mouw, Selena Balderas, Peyton Tazelaar, Jenna Holmes, and Kathy Millo.

(games played Friday after Champion press time) Brea Olinda (2-2) at Ayala (4-0); Chino (1-3) at Hesperia (1-3); Troy (0-4) at Don Lugo (1-3). 

Chino Hills (3-2) and Ontario Christian (3-2), bye weeks. 

Week 4 results 

(games played Sept. 14) 

Ayala 34, Tustin 0 

Ayala’s Abraham Ortiz rushed 13 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns and Andrew Aguilar caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Cole McCain in the Bulldogs’ shut out victory over Tustin. 

McCain also rushed for 101 yards and added a touchdown for the Bulldogs. 

Junior varsity score: Tustin 18, Ayala 0. 

Frosh score: Ayala 25, Tustin 6. 

Chino Hills 21, Charter Oak 7 

Chino Hills High senior Walter Carl III rushed for 195 yards and two scores and David Espinosa returned an inteception for a touchdown in the Huskies’ victory against the Chargers. 

The Huskies picked off three passes in the game and lead the nation in interceptions with 15 after five games. 

Junior varsity score: Charter Oak 21, Chino Hills 20. 

Frosh score: Chino Hills 35, Charter Oak 14. 

Ontario Christian 40, Valley Christian 17 

Ethan Venerable rushed for three touchdowns, Connor Mooneyham added a pair of scores and Moses Serrano found the endzone in the Knights’ 23-point win over the Crusaders. 

Venerable finished with 142 yards on 16 carries, Mooneyham had 70 yards on six carries and Serrano recorded 51 yards on 13 carries for Ontario Christian. 

Junior varsity score: Ontario Christian 42, Valley Christian 28.
