Mt. SAC Invitational 

The Ayala High girls team placed fourth and the boys’ team took seventh at last weekend’s Mt. San Antonio College Invitational meet in Walnut. 

Ayala swimmers placing in the top five of their event were: Ariel Wooden (fifth, girls’ 200 free, 1:54.76); Mikki Thompson (fifth, girls’ 50 free, 24.61); Mikki Thompson (fourth, 100 girls’ fly, 58.58); Ariel Wooden (fifth, girls’ 100 free. 53.27); Ayala (second, girls’ 200 free relay, 1:39.52); Dallas Cargile (second, girls’ 100 breast), 1:04.90); Ayala (fifth, boys 400 free relay, 3:20.06); Ayala (first, girls’ 200 medley relay, 1:48.53); Ayala (fifth, boys’ 200 medley relay, 1:40.30);

CIF State Division 1 South Region

No. 6 Chino Hills 80, No. 3 Crespi 76

Chino Hills High’s Onyeka Okongwu scored 28 points, Ofure Ujadughele added 19 points and Andre Ball connected on six free throws in the final 1:16 last Saturday as the Huskies rallied from a seven-point fourth quarter deficit to defeat Crespi in a second-round game.

Crespi’s Brandon Williams, a highly-ranked college prospect, scored 43 points in the loss.

Chino 6, Don Lugo 4

Chino High School’s Cameron White homered and had two RBIs and Robert Moreno had a double and two RBIs Monday in the Cowboys’ victory over Don Lugo. Manuel Malgra and Joshua Cate each knocked in a run for Chino, which improved its season record to 3-5.

Loara Tournament

Ayala 3, Aliso Niguel 0

Ayala pitchers Alec Beck, Curtis Nagel, Dylan Ramsey and Ethan Rivera combined to no hit the Wolverines March 9 in a Loara Tournament game. They collectively struck out seven hits and walked three in the victory. Sean McLeod and Kyle Velazquez had a hit and an RBI for Ayala. 

San Clemente 9, Ayala 5

Ayala’s Sean McLeod had two hits and knocked in a run and Joe Naranjo had a hit and RBI in the Bulldogs’ loss March 8. Dylan Cook and Kyle Velasquez recorded an RBI apiece for Ayala, which had its five-game winning streak to start the season snapped with the loss.

Frozen Ropes Classic

Chino Hills 7, Maranatha 5

Chino Hills High’s Henry Martinez, David Martin, Michael Rosales and Connor Brady all recorded an RBI March 8 in the Huskies’ win over Maranatha.

Softball

Palomares League 

Glendora 7, Ayala 4 

Glendora led 7-0 after six innings and held off an Ayala rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a  win Tuesday. Kayla Rodgers and Miranda Lista each brought home two runs for Ayala in the loss. Virginia Nemeth had a three-run home run for Glendora, which improved to 4-4 overall, 1-1 in league.

Junior varsity score: Ayala 15, Glendora 5

Nonleague 

Roosevelt 6, Chino 3 

Chino fell to a record of 1-8 Wednesday with a loss to Roosevelt. Milaysia Ochoa finished 2 for 4 and Samantha Badios went 2 for 3 in the Cowgirls’ loss.

Jurupa Valley Tournament

Don Lugo 4, Canyon Springs 2

Savannah Magadan homered and Crystal Amaral had two hits and two RBIs in the Conquistadores’ win March 8. Sierra Gomez had two hits and Anjaly Cruz finished with a hit and RBI for Don Lugo. 

Jurupa Hills 10, Ayala 5

Jurupa Hills led 10-0 in the third inning of its win March 8 over Ayala. Hannah Hughbanks, Kobie Hura and Kaylee Moore recorded an RBI for the Bulldogs. 

Lakeside Tournament

Chino High scores from last week’s tournament: Chino 7, Corona 6; Paloma Valley 6, Chino 5; Hillcrest 7, Chino 6; Murrieta Valley 8, Chino 3.

Chino Hills singles winners from its victory March 8: Hubert Li (6-1, 6-3, 6-1); Matthew Chio (6-0, 6-0, 6-0); Jimmy Troung (6-1, 6-1, 6-1).

Doubles winners: Andrew Roy and Joshua Costa (6-2); Edward Lai and Leo Park (6-3, 6-1); Adrian Renteria and Nathaniel Marquez (6-4, 6-0).

Ontario Christian defeats Ganesha 25-9, 25-19, 26-24 

Ontario Christian improved to 3-4 this season with Tuesday night’s straight-sets win over Ganesha.
