Battle Zone Tournament

Chino Hills 50, Orange Lutheran 49 

Onyeka Okongwu’s 29 points led the Huskies to a one-point victory over Orange Lutheran Wednesday. The Huskies played Rancho Christian Friday after Champion press time in the Battle Zone Tournament semifinals. 

Should Chino Hills defeat Rancho Christian Friday, the Huskies will advance to the championship game at 7:30 p.m. today (Dec. 2) at Centennial High School, 18420 Rimpau Ave. in Corona. 

A loss to Rancho Christian sends the Huskies to the third-place game at 6 p.m. tonight at Centennial High. 

Chino Hills 72, Highland 43

Huskies’ Onyeka Onkongwu scored a game-high 29 points Monday to lead Chino Hills past Highland in a first-round game of the Battle Zone Tournament at Centennial High School in Corona. 

Sierra Vista Tournament

La Puente 61, Don Lugo 46 

Don Lugo fell to 0-2 with Wednesday’s loss to La Puente at Sierra Vista Tournament in La Puente. 

Mark Keppel 73, Don Lugo 47

The Conquistadores began their season Tuesday with a 26-point loss to Mark Keppel of Alhambra in a first-round game. Mark Keppel led 21-9 after the first quarter and 36-13 at halftime. 


Glendora 62, Ontario Christian 60

Ontario Christian had its five-game winning streak to the start the 2018-19 season snapped Tuesday with a two-point loss to Glendora. Glendora led 23-19 after one quarter, 30-28 at the half and 45-41 at the end of three quarters. 

Junior varsity score: Ontario Christian 46, Glendora 35.

Bonita Tournament

Sonora 60, Chino Hills 53

Chino Hills High’s Dorcus Wu scored 23 points and Erica Collins added 13 points and 14 rebounds, but the Huskies couldn’t catch Sonora Tuesday in a Bonita Tournament game in La Verne. 

Roosevelt 51, Don Lugo 41

Don Lugo’s Jailah Lee scored 12 points and had seven rebounds and Alexis Cordero chipped in with 10 points Tuesday in the Conquistadores’ loss to Roosevelt from Eastvale.

Chino Hills 46, San Dimas 45

Dorcus Wu scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds and Erica Collins finished with nine points, eight rebounds and 12 blocked shots for the Huskies in their win Monday over San Dimas. 

Don Lugo 72, Alta Loma 17

Brianna Shuttle scored 26 points on 10 of 19 shooting in the Conquistadores’ win Monday against the Braves. Yasmine Lara added 12 points, Lissette Llamas scored 10 points and Jailah Lee finished with nine points and 10 rebounds for Don Lugo.  

Downey Calvary Chapel Tournament

Ontario Christian 52, Alhambra 28

Cassandra Gishwiller had a game-high 14 points, Mikayla Campbell had seven points and 12 rebounds and Jordyn Mason contributed seven points and seven rebounds Tuesday in the Knights win over Alhambra. 

Ontario Christian 42, Mary Star of the Sea 25

Ontario Christian’s Cassandra Gishwiller scored 13 points and Tayrn Mouw added nine points and nine rebounds in the Knights’ win Monday. 

Deauna Houston finished with 10 rebounds for Ontario Christian. 

Orange Tournament 

Canyon 66, Chino 50 

Chino fell to a 2-3 record with Wednesday’s loss to Anaheim Canyon in an Orange Tournament game. Canyon improved to 2-0. 


Twentynine Palms 82, Ayala 36

Twentynine Palms, the seventh-ranked team in California and 80th-ranked team in the nation, led 22-10 after the first quarter and 41-15 at halftime in its win last Saturday over Ayala (0-2). 

With the victory, Twentynine Palms improved its record to 5-0. 

Boys soccer

Rancho Cucamonga Tournament

Etiwanda 2, Chino 0

The Cowboys fell to 0-2 on the season after its shutout loss Tuesday to the Eagles.


Ayala 3, Monrovia 1

Ayala trailed 1-0 at the half before scoring three goals in the second half to defeat Monrovia Tuesday. 

Girls soccer


Don Lugo 4, Northview 4 

Don Lugo freshman Michelle Vazquez scored three goals and Shay McCool added a goal and an assist for Don Lugo Wednesday in its tie with Northview to kick off its 2018-19 season.

Chino 3, Colony 3 

Chino’s Amina Nava scored two goals, Kylie White added a goal and an assist and Lauren Castro recorded two assists in the Cowgirls’ tie with Colony High School Wednesday.

Ontario Christian 6, Saddleback Valley Christian 0

Ontario Christian started its season Monday with a shutout victory over the Warriors.
