Ayala High School’s Andrew Martinez, left, won the boys’ title and Mikaela Ramirez won the girls’ title at last Saturday’s Palomares League cross country finals at Legg Lake Park in South El Monte. 

Ayala High School’s Mikaela Ramirez won the girls’ championship and Andrew Martinez captured the boys’ title at last Saturday’s Palomares League cross country finals held at Legg Lake Park in South El Monte. 

Ramirez finished in a time of 17:04.87 to beat Claremont freshman Maddie Coles by seven seconds. 

Martinez ran a 14:47.57 to defeat Claremont’s Ryan Cowgill, who placed second at 14:55.14. 

In the team standings, Ayala boys’ and girls’ teams placed second. Claremont High won the boys’ and girls’ team titles. 

Other Ayala boys’ runners: Jacob Villegas (third, 14:55.41); Yael Grimaldi (14th, 15:30.65); Ko Akabori (17th, 15:42.62); Austin Lemus (20th, 15:50.30). 

Other Ayala girls’ runners: Cadence Chang (12th, 18:23.89); Erin Facenda (14th, 18:31.34); Shaina Berk (15th, 18:40.74); Megan Oh (18:44.49); Emily Garcia (18:48.65).
